THE VIEW OUTSIDE MY LAB WINDOW

Although, admittedly, I didn't often (ever?) get up at sunrise to do this labwork. But I did often get up at/before sunrise...

She makes "films"

I went to Boston for the day and spent most of the day helping Arielle
with a film project. It was a fair amount of fun, we were working on a
stop motion film about a creation-myth.

Spring break 2010

During which my friends and I pretend to be trashy, drunken college
students. (night shot mode to accentuate the trashiness!)
FYI: in case you were ever the slightest bit confused about it: jello
shots are a horrid idea.

Productivity fail

Instead of studying organic chemistry last night, I got high off of
nail polish. Olivia and her younger sister and I sat on the rugs in
our room and pretended we were at a sleepover party.

(I was going for Marvel comic book...)

Sharon Buns

There is true love in the Lu family:

10pm Saturday night
I am sitting in the lobby of an empty academic building studying
organic chemistry. Boop! Ooh, the good ol' gchat noise. I expect it
to be one of my friends (hah - I mean the ever-present Bugsby), but lo
and behold, it is Sharon Yen.

10:09 PM
Sharon: I made baked buns today. Just thinking about you while making them
me: That's awesome!
Sharon: I'm going to send you a picture of the buns so you can see how
they turned out
me: Oh man, that will just make me wish that I could eat them for real.
The dark downsides to digital media!
Sharon: the bits are going over the wire now. I wish I can send
aroma-gram via the internet
me: Haha. I'm sure that's coming in the future.
Sharon: Pat and your Mom are coming home next week. Any chance you
will be visiting?
me: My spring break doesn't start until the last week of March.
I think I'll probably be home for a weekend or so, but probably the
later one. So maybe around th 2 -4th of April
Sharon: Cool. Ok Looking forward to seeing you. Got to go to do laundry
me: Okay. Have a good night!
Sharon: THanks, Bye.

It's now my desktop. I might salivate every time I see it.

Thursday night curry!

It was delicious. That is why they look so excited.

Really, I need to take some pictures of the awesome sweater that Mel
sent me (along with this camera) because it is super comfy and fits me
perfectly!

California: not so good at pretending that February is winter.

(Daily temps almost to 70, all plants ESPLODING in an orgy of spring.)

Lego coat o' arms

FORWARD to the mushrooms!

Got you these photos, guys. I don't remember which one of you had the camera at the time, but nice shootin'. Macro sexiness all 'round. That was a sweet mountain.

DON'T DO ANYTHING ILLEGAL

The Church of Scientology on Castro Street has a lot of motivational posters up on the windows. One of them features Patrick.

They're watching you, bro.

Lunch

I can't resist the urge to post some more things about food. It's a
long weekend, so things are particularly calm here. Of course that
means that I've been making the tasty eats. This is pasta sauce with
lots of peppers, a couple carrots, cilantro/rosemary/basil and
meatballs made with breadcrumbs, romano cheese, spinach, garlic and
cilantro accompanied by tasty, perfectly aldente whole wheat linguini.
With a cup of tea and and a pool of early afternoon sunshine in an old
silent room.

Also, accompanied by some papers discussing the possible links between
gamete determination and sex determination and whether the two
processes are definitely linked or arise through separate pathways.

Consternation

I am aware of the fact that you don't really miss my ugly mug, but I
am posting this picture for two reasons:
1. I guess I sleep on my face a lot, because I realized around
midmorning several times this week that my hair sticks up into a
fauxhawk BY ITSELF.
2. This was the last time that my camera was fully working properly. I
picked it up off of my desk and turned it on and the screen was really
weird looking. I was making this look of utter consternation because
the buttons weren't working and the only way that I could take a
mirror picture was to cover the flash.
Since then the screen has stopped working entirely and the only
controls that definitely work are the on/off and taking a picture. I'm
generally confused, and potentially going to spend some time in the
next couple days poking at it to try to get it to work.

My bread is better than yo' bread!

No-Work Bread gains raisins, cinnamon, whole wheat and DELICIOUSNESS.

[add a good handful of raisins, substitute one cup regular flour with
whole wheat, and add what you think is too much cinnamon]

Roller Derby Queen

Meanest hunk of woman I've ever seen!
Down in the arena.
Uh huh.

I am totally going to make this happen at Brown.

SNOW IN DURHAM!?!?!

Yea so this is what I did this past weekend. 7" of snow so we made a snowman outside Crowell that stood over 6'3. And then I went body sledding in the same night. And again the next night...

So Yea I have way too much work going on now. :( This semester kinda sucks work wise at least.

Tea at Work

Harmony is amazing for giving me a way to brew good loose-leaf at the
office!

Sunday, January 31, 2010

tea, fish, trench coats

Harm, this picture made me think of you.

That shark's expression:
"THIS IS THE WORST GUY HUG I HAVE EVER HAD THIS IS SO AWKWARD HE'S TOUCHING MY BITS"

TRENCH COAT. With corset lacing?!? (Spotted from the car. I might have been driving AND taking pictures.)

FOR THE SAKE OF SCIENCE

Today, I spent several hours scraping creatures off rocks. Did I
mention it was freezing (<20 degrees) and windy?

Thursday, January 28, 2010

Guys, I am overwhelmed by the need to share these.

Subtext?

Before school shenanigans

The last night before classes, I climbed this
http://proteus.brown.edu/urbanism/4700 with some friends. It was
pretty cold, and really fucking awesome. Pictures aren't great though
- at least this one looks like I did some mad tagging.

Teh Bird on a Napful Day

The Hat That Traveled the World

Test post from Mel's camera. Turns out that Verizon mucks up everything with crummy ads when you send-- but you can always clean up a post later.

[1/?/10, Pat pimps the style.]

[Repost: after taking photo off the phone and uploading at full res, instead of Verizon-I-chewed-this-for-you-res.]

...alright, and now resized to 1024 (the flickr upload limit):

Unknown Bird Blur

RUN LITTLE FUZZBALL. RUN.

Got this effect by a) taking a 1,001 pictures and b) panning with the bird as it ran.

1/17/10

First photo! I spent the week in Ithaca with Constantine. We went to a state park very near Cornell called Buttermilk Falls. It was like a slightly less intense version of The Flume and gorgeous in the snowfall.
